City of London Academy 64 – 68 Itchen College

This was a must win game for Itchen and they came out blocks with a lot of intensity, eventually claiming a 68-64 win.

CoLA only managed to score 9 points in the 1st period while the visitors put up 22 behind some aggressive play from T. Hudson. He scored 6 points in the opening frame and really put pressure on the CoLA bigs when attacking the basket.

The following quarters saw CoLA pick up the intensity on defence, going with smaller line ups and attacking the basket with control and patience. The change in tactics put the hosts in the driving seat, winning the the 2nd 16-12 and the 3rd 17-11.

It was the Itchen guards Steve Nwagwu and former CoLA player Taiga Forster who really took over when the game was tied in the 4th at 61 a piece scoring, the last 9 points to seal a well deserved win.

Coach Williams commented after the game how proud he was of the team’s comeback: “It was a very exciting game and the crowd really enjoyed it. Our boys fought really hard after the first quarter melt down and all credit to coach Guymon and his staff for a great performance.”

CoLA are on the road next week to USP while Itchen host Oaklands.
