City of London Academy 72 v 63 Oaklands College

City of London Academy made it two wins in a row as they beat Oaklands College 72-63 yesterday.

In front of another good home crowd, CoLA managed to race out of the gate with nine unanswered points including a 3 pointer from Oscar Leigh-Hales who continued his sharp shooting form from a week ago . After the quick time out from Oaklands, the visitors regrouped and put together a 7-2 run including some good passing from Jordan Bogle which steadied the ship. The home side still managed to put points on the board though, ending the quarter up 20-13.

The game continued with both teams struggling at times to execute their sets but it was CoLA who managed to score 9 points from range including one each from Erikas Sendrauskas and Kavell Hawes, who netted 15 points for the game.

Five points from Powdrell and five from Murphy including a buzzer beater to end the half gave hope to the away team as they trailed 38-29.

The first three minutes of the 3rd quarter was all Oaklands’ as the home team struggled with the zone defence and a huge 3 from Gastaldi-Davies tied the game up at 38. CoLA stepped up again defensively and were able to get out in transition off of steals from Hawes and a Tyreese Garrod, enabling CoLA to regain control.

The final period started with the home team up by 8 points but Oaklands were not going to give up. Two triples and a perfect 4 from 4 at the free throw line from Gastaldi-Davies, who finished with a team high of 19 points personal ,was not enough as more 3’s from Leigh-Hales and Hawes kept the visitors at bay.

Leading scorers for CoLA were Leigh-Hales on 19 and Hawes with 16. For Oaklands, Gastaldi-Davies had 19
Finley D’Avilar finished with 10.

CoLA’s next game will be on November 6th away to Itchen while Oaklands travel to Copleston.
