City of London Academy vs Canterbury High School

City of London Academy hosted Canterbury High school on Wednesday afternoon with both programs needing a win to keep playoff contention alive for the fourth spot in the Southern conference.

The game opened up with Canterbury taking the early initiative with long range scores from Chester Morrell and Will Raife building a sizeable lead by the end of the first period. The second quarter was a more even affair with with the sides trading baskets, strong play from CoLA’s Jordan Okonji seemed to settle the home side and Canterbury went in at the half up 15 points.

The third quarter saw CoLA mount a serious comeback with a 15-0 run to tie the game with their full court defense being a major factor,. Canterbury again found their groove with baskets from Josh Moore and Morrell and the home side found it difficult to bridge the gap thereafter with the final score 66-80 in favour of the travelling team

Canterbury Head Coach, Adam Davies had this to say: “Great result today, we showed real resillience to gain the lead again in the third after we lost focus after half time and gave up a big run.”

Okonji led CoLA with 17 points, supported by Taiga Forster and Louis Norton who both finishes with 11 points each. Canterbury’s scoring was led by sharp shooter Will Raife with 20 points whilst shooting 50% from beyond the arc and Chester Morrell who went 4-7 from three to finish with a strong 16.

Next week Canterbury will face Itchen in a bid to move up the playoff rankings, whilst CoLA visit Barking Abbey.
