City of London Academy vs Copleston High School

City of London Academy hosted Copleston High School in an early tip; a must win game for the London side. On the back-end of a four-game losing streak, the hosts ended the first quarter down by five, 13-18, as Copleston guard Veron Eze paced his side with 10 points early on.

In a very defensive-minded second quarter, CoLA closed the gap to two points with both teams giving away very little on the offensive end. At the half, the hosts remained down by two, 22-24.

The third quarter saw CoLA wake up with Patrick Lanipekun and Jordan Okonji leading the charge, combined for 12 points through sharp outside shooting and some timely points in the paint.

The final stanza saw the biggest offensive outburst for CoLA, with their scoring was spread amongst five players. The hosts dug in on the defensive end also, especially on the glass. The game went down to the wire, with CoLA eventually coming out 60-58 winners to snap their losing streak.

CoLA were led by 17 points from Jordan Okonji, while Patrick Lanipekun supported with 10. Veron Eze led all scorers with 25 points for Copleston, as Ben Winter added 12.

CoLA Coach Sterling Muschett said, “This was a much needed win for us. The balanced scoring was good to see, as well as the effort on the defensive end. Copleston did a great job as always to slow us down, especially in the first half, but we toughed it out and came out with the win.”

Both teams have the week off next Wednesday before resuming play in the EABL Southern Conference on 28 November, as CoLA make the journey to Oaklands College and Copleston host Itchen College.
