City of London Academy vs SEEVIC College

City of London Academy opened up their home campaign with a win against spirited and competitive EABL newcomers SEEVIC College.

The opening quarter was a close one with just two points separating the two teams. The size and energy of SEEVIC bothered CoLA, as the South London outfit began losing the battle on the boards.

CoLA managed to gain some separation in the second quarter behind 10 points from Richmond Airyo. This led to a seven point lead for CoLA heading into the half-time break.

After the half, CoLA came out with a renewed focus, new energy and better commitment on the defensive end. The lead was stretched to 31 at one point in the third and the home side held a commanding 25 point lead going into the fourth. With defence being the priority, SEEVIC were slowly worn down and CoLA capitalised on the turnovers they were able to force.

“SEEVIC came to play today and it startled us,” said Coach Sterling Muschett after the game. “For the first half they were hungrier than us and it showed. Not to make any excuses but there were a lot of nerves on show with a number of new boys playing in front of a big and expectant crowd. There was a lot of frustration at the half but with a renewed focus, we got things right in the third.”

CoLA were led by Dylan Darbin with 17 points and Richmond Airyo who added 16. SEEVIC had contributions of 10 points from James Oldham and seven points from Christopher Janes.

Next week CoLA travel to Canterbury, aiming to win three on the spin, whilst SEEVIC host Itchen in search of their first win.
