Copleston High School vs Canterbury High School

A thrilling encounter between Copleston High School and Canterbury High School came down to a last second three-point attempt from the hosts’ Ben Winter as Canterbury grabbed a hard-earned 62-60 victory on the road in Suffolk. Winter’s buzzer-beater rattled in-and-out, almost giving Copleston an unlikely win after trailing by seven with less than a minute to play.

The game was dominated by stifling defence by both teams, while offensively it seemed at times that both groups of players were intent on handing their opposition the game.

Canterbury were led by 22 points from Josh Moore, while Copleston were paced by 18 from Ethan Price. The win sees Canterbury move to 3-2 in the Southern Conference while Copleston fall to 4-2.

Copleston Coach Nick Drane said, “We didn’t execute today – not until it was too late. Down seven with less than a minute to play and we were awesome, doing everything right – but Canterbury won the game well before those final moments. We lost today because of missed lay-ups and missed box-outs – not because missed of a three-point shot on the buzzer.”

Coach Drane added, “Credit to Coach Davies and his Canterbury squad – they will be a handful for anyone this season.”

Copleston head on the road next week to visit City of London Academy, while Canterbury play host to Oaklands College.
