Copleston High School vs Canterbury High School

Copleston High School secured the third seed in the South East Conference with a 65-25 win over Canterbury High School on Wednesday afternoon.

Copleston were back to full strength after their two losses last week without key starters Sam Newman and Dylan Costelloe. The same could not be said for Canterbury who were forced to bring a weakened team, which showed in the final score.

Copleston started the game on a 9-0 run and although the visitors would pull things back to 9-6 IBA got things going again and soon extended their lead to double figures.

Sam Newman led the way with 14 and five assists while Dylan Costelloe added a sound 14 points to go with eight steals, six assists and four rebounds. Elsewhere Luke Mascall-Wright picked up fourteen points and nine rebounds in just over twenty minutes of play. Copleston used their emphatic half time lead to hand some valuable playing experience to first year players who grasped the opportunity with both hands.

“It’s been a crazy month for fixtures, Luke and myself are playing games for the academy, the u18s and the men which can mean four or five games a week at this stage of the season so it was nice to sit back and watch the younger players get some time and make the most of it,” said Copleston’s point guard Sam Newman.
