Copleston High School vs Northfleet Technology College

Copleston moved to 3-1 in the EABL, with a comfortable, if not convincing, 84-72 victory over Northfleet Technology College, who are now 0-5 on the season.

For Copleston, it was once again Luke Mascall-wright leading the way with a season high 39 points, along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists, however a sprained ankle for Mascall-Wright forced him to exit early in the fourth quarter, casting doubt over his fitness ahead of the team’s National Cup quarter final fixture against Harefield Academy.

Northfleet had the better of the opening period, but Copleston seized control of the game in the second and cruised to double figure win.

“After last year where we were focused on winning, we decided this year that we would look to spread out the playing time more evenly amongst the squad, to help develop all of our guys,” said Ipswich Coach Tom Sadler after the game.

“That said, even while playing less minutes, Luke and Sam (Newman) are really setting the tone for the team, and are showing great leadership which has led to us enjoying a winning start to the season.”

Elsewhere for Copleston, Sam Newman continued to quietly display his all round game as he poured in a season high of 26 points and dished out 8 assists. Sam Bignell had 16 to lead Northfleet, with Joshua Adeniran adding 14.

Copleston were without Irish national team point guard Dylan Costello and 7ft centre Laurence Watsham who were both rested to ensure that Copleston was able to rotate its 15 player roster.

Copleston’s next game is at home on Wednesday the 27th of November against Harefield academy in the quarter final of the national cup, while Northfleet host county upper on the fourth of December.
