Copleston Sixth Form vs Barking Abbey

Barking Abbey continued their EABL win streak with a 83-74 win over Copleston on the road on Wednesday.

Up 14 heading into the final period and appearing to be comfortably in control, Copleston mounted a fourth quarter run, behind the play of Jonny Hall, Ben Winter and Blake Read, pulling to within four in the final minute before BA were able to close out the victory and improve to 10-0.

Caleb Fuller led BA with 17 points against the programme he originates from, while Micah Savery-Richards added 16, Jonathan St Hilaire had all 12 of his points in the first half and Nathaniel Powell finished with 12. Jonny Hall led Copleston with 32 while Winter added 21.

“Going to Copleston is always a tricky game in the EABL, today was no different,” BA Head Coach Lloyd Garnder said.

“I thought we did a good job in the first half of opening up a lead but then our half court defence was not of the standard we set for ourselves in the second half and that was disappointing.

“All credit for the way Copleston played, they managed to get themselves back into the game and made it interesting down the stretch. But I thought we had the quality in execution in the final minutes that we deserved the win.”

Copleston Head Coach Nick Drane added: “On paper we’ve given Barking their two toughest games of the EABL season, and I think that in itself proves that we are moving in the right direction.

“This season was always about development for us, we knew it would be a transitional year and while we are not likely to finish that high up the league standings, we are really having a positive season.”

Copleston are on the road to BHASVIC next week while BA travel to John Madejski Academy as the final stretch of the regular season approaches.
