- Updated: January 31, 2017
Copleston hung on to secure a huge 62-59 win over Canterbury High School in the EABL as the race for play-off places heats up.
With only a handful of games to play it appears that Copleston, Itchen and JMA are vying for two spots, with Canterbury left with a mountain to climb after this loss.
Copleston had control of the game for much of the forty minutes, but Canterbury made runs both in the third and fourth quarter.
Copleston were led again by Rory Winter, the dynamic guard has blossomed in recent weeks. Winter finished with 18 points to go with 11 rebounds and 4 assists while Josh Apple battled foul trouble to finish with 13 points and 17 boards. Johnny Hall added 8 points and 8 rebounds while Canterbury kept Caleb Fuller relatively quiet. For Crusaders, Tyrese Walters led the way with 22 points, and was supported by Tumi Olojede who added 11.
“I thought we did a good job holding on for the win today,” said IBA Coach Tom Sadler. “We were up fifteen at one stage in the fourth and I don’t think we would have ever lived it down had we thrown it away. Credit to Canterbury, they are always tough to play against.”
Copleston travel to Itchen for a crunch game next week while Canterbury host BHASVIC.
