Copleston Sixth Form vs Oaklands College

Oaklands College used a strong start to take a 95-82 win over Copleston on Wednesday afternoon.

Oaklands started the game with a flurry of three’s and dunks that led to a 15-0 run, that extended to 27-11 by the end of the period.

Although Copleston battled valiantly, pulling the Oaklands lead back to within ten on multiple occasions, poor decision making and missed free-throws cost Copleston any chance of getting fully back into the game.

During the third quarter, with Oaklands in team fouls with seven minutes left in the quarter, Copleston took advantage, attacking the Oaklands basket and drawing several fouls, resulting in an incredible seventeen trips to the foul line.

However, Copleston were only able to convert six of them – essentially costing them any chance of going into the fourth within touching distance.

“Oaklands were excellent in the first quarter today – I can’t fathom why they are where they are in the league table,” Copleston Head Coach Nick Drane said.

“They have size, length, shooting and exceptional athletes – they are the second most talented team in this conference in my opinion. We’ve lost ten games this season, nine of them have been the same story – we fought hard, but silly mistakes cost us dearly.”

Oaklands were led by 19 points from Jordan George, helped by 19 from Jose Morals. Copleston were led by 29 from Jonny Hall and 21 from Blake Read.

Copleston host Canterbury next Wednesday while Oaklands host BHASVIC.
