Derby College/Noel Baker School vs Allerton High School

Derby kept up their chase for a Western Conference play off spot with a convincing 85-54 victory over a hard working Allerton outfit in this rare Monday afternoon clash at Noel-Baker Academy.

The Leeds based team scored the first basket through Aldridge and tried to keep pace early on through Rezendez who netted 14 first half points. But Derby’s pressure defence created several turnovers and they established control to take a 28-11 first quarter lead.

Elliott-Sewell had 12 personal in the first half including an impressive alley oop dunk off the backboard from nice Lue pass as Derby continued to score freely. At the half the home team had opened up a 54-30 lead.

The third quarter saw a similar pattern, as Derby extended their lead but in the fourth Allerton rallied showing a never give up approach which was rewarded with them winning the quarter 17-11 as the game ended 85-54.

All ten Trailblazer players got on to the scoresheet with Luke Ptak leading the way with 17. Alexander and Mutemasango joined him and Elliott-Sewell in double figures with 13 and 11 respectively.

For Leeds Rezendez had 14 while Aldridge netted 12 and Halliday scored 10.

Derby Head Coach Matt Shaw commented:

“Leeds have improved since we played them before Christmas and it’s a credit to their players and coach the way they kept battling. They have the youngest team in our Conference but worked tirelessly and made us really work for everything.

“We shot the ball a lot better than against Charnwood which was pleasing, apart from our free throw shooting which was woeful. We have more three games in the next 10 days so its an exciting time for us as we try to gain a spot in the post-season.”

Derby face Myerscough away in two days time while Allerton travel to Loreto later this week too.
