Derby College/Noel Baker School vs SGS College

SGS recorded their first EABL win of the season with an impressive 75-54 away win at Derby thanks to a dominant second half display.

Behind 20 points from AJ Edu, SGS pulled away in the third quarter to secure the win.

Derby’s Coach Shaw commented after the game: “Credit to SGS, they played very well today. In the second half they hit a lot of tough shots and also made it really tough for us to get good looks. Our guys are disappointed, but we can learn a lot from the game and work hard to improve. We need to shoot the ball better from the perimeter than we have in the last two games”

Derby had set the early tempo with Jrae Lue leading the way with some fine defence and 13 first half points. At the break Derby led 36-27.

But as Derby’s scoring dried up, SGS went on the rampage shooting the ball with great confidence winning the third period 26-7 to swing the scoreboard on its head and take control going into the fourth 43-53 ahead.

It was a lead SGS did not surrender as they kept control throughout the fourth period. Leading the way for SGS was Edu who demonstrated some excellent defence around the basket while scoring a game high 20 points along with a handful of rebounds.

Ebuka Ekwegh added 12 for SGS, with Aiden Khan finishing on 11.

For Derby, Jrae Lue had 13, whilst Leighton Elliott-Sewell finished with 12.

Up next for Derby is a trip to Allerton Force on October 18. SGS play Birmingham Met on October 11.
