Derby Trailblazers Academy vs Myerscough College

Myerscough College got an important away 63-86 win in this EABL Northern Conference contest after taking control in the first quarter, despite Blake Bowen netting the Derby Trailblazers Academy’s first eight points.

Derby battled hard with Stuart Matimba and Tzion Essel Jaji playing some great defence and keeping the scoreboard ticking over in the second quarter, but the hosts couldn’t keep pace with the free-scoring Myerscough side as they extended their lead at the half to 33-50. Mate Okros was doing damage for his squad, with 15 points personal at the interval.

The home side continued to work hard in the second half and were aided by some fine shooting from Tyler Mutemasango who hit six second half three-pointers to lead the Derby charge. However, Myerscough were able to maintain a comfortable advantage for the most part, as a nice alley oop dunk from Jamie Gray put the icing on the cake for the visitors.

Derby Coach Matt Shaw commented, “Credit to Myerscough, they really played some good defence and dictated the tempo. I was pleased that we continued to battle but it shows we still have a lot of areas where we can improve.”
