Gateway College vs Derby College/Noel Baker School

Another close encounter between East Midlands rivals Gateway College and Derby College/Noel Baker School, saw Gateway come out with a 67 – 57 victory cementing their play-off seed as fourth from the All Midlands Conference.

Gateway were outstanding in the first half, controlling the tempo of the game and taking advantage of a somewhat lacklustre Derby performance. At the break the score line saw Gateway leading 42-20. Derby played harder after the break and forced a number of turnovers, taking both 3rd and 4th quarters, but Gateway managed to maintain their lead until the final buzzer.

Gateway Head Coach Karl Brown felt that the back-to-back performances against Derby had been their best of the season, delivering at both ends of the floor. Josh Pollock and Pakadashe Chingombe showed their experience while first year Umar Siddique displayed great maturity.

Siddique with 15 and Pollock with 14 led Gateway’s scorers, with Pollock also grabbing 11 defensive rebounds. Monk with 14 and Kayne King with 12 led Derby’s scorers.

Gateway now look forward to a tough game in the first round of play-off action against Loreto 6th Form College.
