Harris Academy Beckenham vs Barking Abbey

Defending champions Harris Academy Beckenham got a 60-50 victory over Barking Abbey on Wednesday afternoon, in a rematch of last year’s semi-final.

Barking Abbey were unable to get the revenge they sought after being knocked out by Harris last season, as Coach Steve Bucknall’s side dominated the glass, led by Kavell Bigby-Williams’ 19 rebounds to go with his 17 points.

“We played well defensively,” said BA Head Coach Frank Holloway after the game. “But struggled offensively – we just couldn’t hit a shot. It’s always hard to get a win at Harris, but we’ll move on from this and look to bounce back next week.”

Harris was able to get out to a first quarter lead because of their dominance on the glass and ability in transition, let by Myles Laurent-Smart.

Laurent-Smart, who finished the game with 15 points and 5 assists, was able to push the ball and find open players to convert.

Barking Abbey were worthy opponents with consistent attacking play of their own which saw them recover from a first quarter deficit in the second.

The game wasn’t decided until the third quarter, when Harris went on a 9-0 run and this finally gave them a comfortable cushion throughout the remainder of the contest.

Reis Pinnock had 13 to lead BA, Karolis Kundratos had 12, and Calvin Nevill-Kintu added 8..
