Itchen College 83 – 64 BHASVIC

Itchen College were able to pull away in the 2nd half against a persistent BHASVIC team to win 83-64.

The home side got the better of the early exchanges, behind some dominant inside play of Tyreese Hudson. BHASVIC would respond to the 18-7 Itchen lead by changing into a 3-2 zone defence, which changed the momentum of the game and allowed BHASVIC to close the quarter with a 9-1 run (19-18).

In the 2nd quarter BHASVIC’s zone would continue to frustrate the Itchen offence and they were able to convert at the other end. The teams traded baskets for the majority of the quarter and a 5-0 run to finish the frame would see BHASVIC take a slender 2 point lead into the half, 39-37.

Itchen would start the 2nd half with a renewed focus at the defensive end, picking up full court which took BHASVIC out of their offensive rhythm. An 18-6 run for the home team in the early parts of the quarter allowed Itchen to retake control of the game. BHASVIC’s Josh Last kept the scoreboard ticking over for the visitors and kept BHASVIC within touching distance, 60-55, going into the final quarter.

A 11-0 run by Itchen in the opening minutes of the 4th, would blow the game open and give an 18 point lead going into the last 4 minutes. The teams traded baskets in the final moments of the quarter to give Itchen an important win.

Itchen coach Matt Guymon said: “Credit to BHASVIC who have a much improved and competitive roster this year. Changing to a 3-2 zone really took us out of rhythm in the first half which impacted us on both ends of the floor.

“I feel like we have made improvements in the last few weeks, but the lapses we have defensively and decision making/game control we have on the offensive end must be consistently better if we are going to challenge the teams in the top half of this league.”

Top scorers for Itchen were Taiga Forster on 21, Tyreese Hudson with 20 and Hadrian Basilio on 11. For BHASVIC, Josh Last impressed to finished with a game high 24 points, as Lewis Jee scored 13 and Ben Curran had 8.
