Itchen College 65 – 71 John Madejski Academy

A slow 2nd half start proved costly for Itchen as JMA held on to a 71-65 away win.

The team’s traded baskets early in the contest, before Itchen would go on a 10-0 run to take a 4 point lead into the quarter break.

Itchen’s momentum would continue in the 2nd quarter, behind some strong inside play of Tyreese Hudson to extend the lead to 10 points. JMA would turn up the defensive intensity after a timeout in the middle of the quarter to go on a 13-3 run and take a 1 point lead into the half.

JMA’s efforts continued in the 2nd half as a smaller lineup caused Itchen’s offense problems, which lead to a number of transition opportunities for the visitors. JMA held a 7 point lead going into the 4th.

Itchen kept pressure on JMA throughout the 4th, but JMA were able to hold out to a 71-65 win.

” We showed some positive signs in the first half, but ultimately weren’t able to respond to JMA’s defensive intensity and also had too many defensive lapses against key personnel,” said Itchen head coach Matt Guymon.

“We have an important run of games coming up and will need some big results to keep our playoff hopes alive.”

Top scorers for Itchen were Tyreese Hudson on 15, Steve Nwagwu on 12 and Taiga Forster with 8.

David Chive led all scorers for JMA with 27 assisted by Victor Gadea who had 9 and Latrell Maitland on 7.
