Itchen College vs BHASVIC

Itchen go 4-3 into the Christmas break after a 84-49 win over BHASVIC on Wednesday.

Itchen would start as the aggressor, pushing the ball in transition which led to quick scores for Matt Hughes and Aaron Berida to give the home side a 14-4 advantage.

A time-out by the visitors would bring Enoch Quarcoo to life, creating on a number of drives as Itchen struggled to keep him out of the paint.

A late rally by Matt Hughes would give him 10 of his 23 points in the quarter to give Itchen a 22-14 lead going into the quarter break.

The second quarter would see both teams trade baskets with BHASVIC closing the gap to 9 at the 6 minute mark before a 10-0 run by Itchen lead by Rhys Bain and Ash Briggs would push the lead to 19. The score at half was 45-25.

The third quarter would open with back to back 3’s from Lewis Gale as the home side continued their rhythm. Enoch Quarcoo and Jake Watson would keep the score ticking over for BHASVIC as Itchen would narrowly win the quarter giving them a 63-38 lead.

A 7-0 run by BHASVIC at the start of the fourth to narrow the gap to 18 would see Itchen call a time out to regroup and would see them win the rest of the quarter 21-3 running out winners 84-49.

“Credit to BHASVIC who came to us undermanned today,” Itchen Head Coach Matt Guymon said.

“They competed hard for 40 minute and really pushed us which I don’t think is a fair reflection on the scoreboard.

“It was crucial for us to get back to winning ways today to give us some confidence going into a very difficult 2018 road stretch, where we will have to be at our best to get results.””

After Matt Hughes’ 23, Aaron Berida finished with 16 for Itchen, whilst Enoch Quarcoo had 23 to lead BHASVIC, with Jake Watson adding 17.

The 2018 season will start for Itchen with a road trip to Canterbury and BHASVIC will host Barking Abbey.
