Itchen College vs Copleston Sixth Form

Itchen College kept their hunt for the second seed alive with a hard fought 59-51 win over Copleston Sixth Form on Tuesday afternoon.

A 12-2 run by Itchen to start the third quarterwould open up a 18 point lead for the home side and be enough to see them through. Copleston would battle back in the fourth quarter to get the game back to 9 points but that was as close as they would get.

The game was a defensive defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find offensive rhythm.

Itchen were led by 20 points from Adam Riabi, 14 from Sam Van Oostrum and 9 from Ashley Briggs, as they overcame a 22 point outing from Caleb Fuller. Rory Winter added 10 for Copleston as the other only player in double figures, whilst Jonny Hall had 7.

“Credit to Copleston as they came in and defended individual tendencies very well,” said Itchen Head Coach Matt Guymon.

“Apart from a run at the start of the third we were never able to find the offensive rhythm that we have had the past few weeks

“Im proud of the composure our guys showed in the secnd half, to limit the runs Copleston were able to go on down the stretch.”

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, with Itchen in a second place decider against City of London Academy in London, and Copleston travelling to Barking Abbey.
