Itchen College vs The Harefield Academy

Itchen College got back on track with a 72-66 victory over The Harefield Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

It wasn’t easy by any means, with Elliot Dadds commenting it was an unconvincing performance.

“We need to put together a more complete game,” he said afterwards, having led Itchen scorers with 13. “We lost our heads when Harefield picked up the intensity and luckily for us we were able to hold on for the win.”

The game started at a very fast pace with both teams having success with fast break and great ball movement. Itchen began to control the game late in the second quarter to give themselves a 10 point lead going into the break.

Itchen continued where they left off to start the third quarter going on a 14-2 run and giving themselves a 12 point lead. Harefield turned up the intensity after a time-out and went on their own run with aggressive defence and great ball movement on offense.

The fourth quarter continued to go in Harefield’s favour forcing turnovers and continuing to play excellent team basketball, getting the score to 64-60 with 4 minutes to play. Itchen gained some composure and managed to get defensive stops and knock free-throws down to finish the game 72-66.

George Ivens added 11 points for Itchen, with Theo King finishing with 10. Ruben Tatham-Nunn had 18 points to lead all scorers for Harefield, with Naglis Markunas adding 15, and Sebastian Ferenc 12.
