Itchen College vs The Henley College

Itchen College defeated The Henley College 80-59 on Wednesday afternoon, locking up the second seed in the South West.

Itchen came out knowing if they wanted any chance of finishing second in the South West they had to beat Henley, but got off to a slow start, struggling to defend the impressive guard combination of Liam Carpenter and Matt Davis.

In the second quarter Itchen changed up their defence and managed to slow Henley down creating more fast break opportunities. But in the third quarter Bjarni Gunnarson caught fire scoring 11 points in the period, with Itchen’s defence still managing to keep Henley’s talented guards quiet.

In the final period, Itchen continued with their offensive momentum with Elliot Dadds and Bjarni Gunnarson leading the charge. With Itchen size advantage they were able to extend to a 21 point lead to finish the game.

“I was really quiet in the first half and wanted to go out and get buckets in the 2nd half to help my team win,” said Solent’s Bjarni Gunnarson who led all scorers with 17. Elliot Dadds added 15 and Joe Rouse finished with 13, whilst Henley were led by Matt Davis’ 17  and 15 from Bradley Bennett.

Itchen will now face Copleston High School in the Sweet 16.
