Itchen College vs Oaklands College

Itchen College were able to pull away to a convincing 91-65 win against Oaklands College.

The first quarter would see the home side jump out of the blocks in what would be a very high-scoring quarter, going up by as many as 14. A late flurry of scores for Oaklands from Abdul Wurie saw the quarter come to a close at 28-18.

Itchen would extend the lead in the second quarter to 46-25 after a 10-0 run, with a number of players contributing to the scoring effort. The hosts headed into the half-time break with a 48-29 lead.

The third quarter would see the visitors continue to battle, getting back into the game behind strong play from Toby Gastaldi-Davies and Abdul Wurie. However, the home team kept the scoreboard ticking over to lead 72-45 going into the final stanza.

The fourth saw Oaklands win the quarter 19-20, but the game was a formality at this point as Itchen secured a 91-65 win.

Itchen Coach Matt Guymon said, “Credit to Oaklands – who were without their top scorer Jose Morais today. They battled and competed for 40 minutes and I think the game felt a lot closer than the final result.

“I’m proud of our guys performance, I saw a huge progress today in our transition & individual defense. It was also great to be able to play our full 12, I was really impressed with the energy and focus our bench brought to the game.”

The Itchen victory was paced by 16 points from Peter Turay, as Matt Hughes and Jeremy Sochan added 15 apiece. Meanwhile, Oaklands had a game-high 17 points from Toby Gastaldi-Davies, as Abdul Wurie chipped in 14.
