Itchen Sixth Form 102 – 56 Oaklands College

Itchen used a strong second half performance to win 102-56 to keep their playoff hopes alive.

A high scoring first quarter would see both teams struggle defensively. Oliver Wright for the visitors was able to connect on a number of long range attempts, whilst Itchen had multiple contributors that kept the scoreboard ticking over.

The 2nd quarter would see the pace slow slightly as Oaklands changed into a 1-3-1 zone. Another tightly contested 10 minutes would have Itchen in the lead 47-36 going into the half time break.

A more focused Itchen team would take the floor in the second half, increasing the defensive intensity and forcing Oaklands into a number of turnovers which sparked an 18-0 run. Taiga Forster came to life behind the 3 point line in this period scoring 14 of his game high 26 points. The home side would extend their lead to 36 points in this period.

The 4th quarter gave Itchen a chance to rotate the bench, where they would continue to extend the lead, winning 102-56.

“I was pleased with our focus & intensity in the 3rd quarter, where we showed our defensive potential. We now have to to put that together for 40 minutes if we are going to challenge for the 4th playoff spot,” said Itchen head coach Matt Guymon.

Top scorers for Itchen were Forster on 26, Hadrian Basilo on 17 and Tyreese Hudson with 10.

For Oaklands, Oliver Wright had 14 points, Veiz Cani had 9 and Nick Powdrell 5.

Itchen host Copleston next week, whilst Oaklands host USP.
