James Watt College v Manchester Magic Academy

In a must win game for both teams, Manchester started the brightest, hitting their first 2 shots to get the game going. James Watt eventually found their rhythm with Daniel Penkov, Ian Rodriguez and EABL Player of the Week Wakeem Richardson providing good scoring and leading James Watt to a first quarter lead of 20-12.

The second quarter was played in a similar fashion. Manchester found it difficult to score in their half court offence as James Watt closed down well and restricted clear opportunities for Manchester. That left the score at 44-28 to the hosts heading into the main change.

The 3rd quarter saw the game take a different turn. Manchester came out with intent and upped their defensive intensity whilst playing much more directly on offence. JWC took a while to adjust as it was a stark contrast to Manchester’s first half intensity. Boayke-Yiadom put in a strong performance in this quarter and was Manchester’s best player in the day. He connected on three 3 pointers and Manchester hit a total of five 3’s in the quarter to win the frame 14-21.

The final quarter was closer than James Watt expected. The lead was reduced to single digits so the home side had to make a few adjustments to regain control of the game. Daniel Penkov took control by running the offence and finding shots for his teammates. From there, James Watt found their rhythm once again to hold on to the lead and eventually break away from Manchester for good and an 84-62 win.

James Watt face Newcastle next week and Manchester host Charnwood.
