John Madejski Academy 85 v 67 Itchen College

JMA came out top despite a spirited second half performance from Itchen, winning 85-67 after leaning heavily on top scorer David Chive who had a season high 27 points.

A tight first quarter saw JMA lead by 4 points, 22-18 after trailing in the opening minutes of the game. The hosts dominated the 2nd quarter, extending their lead to 21 points on the back of several Itchen turnovers which JMA gladly converted into easy baskets.

Following half time Itchen fought their way back into the game, doubling up JMA in the 3rd quarter 22 points to 11. The fourth quarter saw Itchen get to within 7 points but a decisive 10-1 run from JMA saw them build a comfortable lead which they held on to for the win.

Top scorers for JMA were David Chive with 27 points, Asher Ndah chipped in with 11 and a fourth quarter splurge from Kivuvu Live saw him finish with 10 points. Itchen’s top scorers were Taiga Forster with 23 points, Steve Nwagwu with 15 and Josh Sissons had 11.

JMA’s head coach Alan Keane commented post game: “It was another learning opportunity for our guys today. We built a good lead at half time but in the third quarter we drifted away from what were successful with in the first half especially in the second quarter. As the season progresses we’ll learn to stick to what is effective, it was another good performance and great to see our bench players contribute throughout the game.”

Next up, JMA head to USP College and Itchen host COLA.
