John Madejski Academy vs Alec Reed Academy

John Madejski Academy made it three wins on the bounce on Wednesday afternoon after defeating Alec Reed Academy 93-76 behind Asher Ndah’s 29 points, 12 rebounds haul.

JMA Head Coach, Alan Keane was pleased to see his team avenge defeat against an Alec Reed side that won the reverse fixture back in October and highlighted the key areas that led to success today.

He said, “A solid performance throughout. Some moments of regression but good see players realign in those moments. We controlled the boards better this week which allowed us to flow into offence. Credit to our inside players doing a good job running the floor and creating a lot of paint touches.”

The opening exchanges of the game suggested the contest would be a tight affair as the visitors to Reading held a one point advantage after five minutes, 8-9 before a huge flurry of points by both teams meant the first quarter ended 30-24 in favour of the hosts as they really picked the tempo up. The beginning of the second quarter started much the same as the opening five minutes with JMA pushing their advantage to seven, 38-31 before a 15-9 run by the home team ensured they would enter the locker room with their biggest lead of the game 53-40 in a high scoring affair. JMA extended their lead to as many as to midway through the third period but were pegged back by a tenacious Alec Reed side as they finished with a 7-2 run to cut the arrears to 12, 73-61.

The fourth quarter began quite cagey for both teams as JMA looked to maintain their advantage whilst Alec Reed were still trying to find a way back into the game and with five minutes remaining in the contest, JMA still had a 12 point advantage and led 80-68. The home team then turned up the heat and closed out the game to secure a well earned 93-76 victory. Supporting Asher Ndah’s 29 was Sam Grant with 15, and Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo with 11. For Alec Reed, Elias Poorman led their attack with 22 points, Mo Adan had 18 and Dovydas Golovcenko added 11.

JMA make the long trip to Ipswich next week to take on Copleston whilst Alec Reed host BHASVIC on Wednesday 16th January.
