John Madejski Academy vs Itchen College

John Madejski Academy produced a blistering first quarter performance on Wednesday afternoon as they beat Itchen College by 20 points to seal an important 82-62 victory in Reading.

The home team were led by Adrian Nosa Castillo who scored 21 points, 12 of which came in his side’s first quarter blitz.

In speaking after his first EABL win as JMA Head Coach, Alan Keane was pleased with his team’s performance but is looking forward to continuing to build with his group throughout the season. The JMA play-caller said:

“Today was a good performance in moments, however we are in a transitional period where we are continuing to build day by day. We will reflect and review this performance and we will to continue to work with what we have and move in the right direction, of that I am sure.”

JMA opened the game up on the front foot and quickly accumulated a 10-0 lead after just two and a half minutes. Two baskets from Itchen stopped the rot but an 11-2 run by the hosts ensured a dominant first quarter lead as JMA were in charge after the first ten minutes with a 27-9 advantage.

The second quarter started in the same vain as the home team opened with an 8-1 to extend their lead to 25 points, however it was the visitors who would rally in the final five minutes of the half as a 10-0 run helped them trim the deficit to 17, 41-24 at the break.

In the third quarter, Itchen reduced the arrears again, this time to 13 but that was as close as they got as their opponents edged a nervy third quarter by two points as they went into the final stanza with a 60-41 lead.

The fourth quarter was a relatively even affair with both teams trading baskets throughout but it was JMA who prevailed and secured an important home win to move themselves to four wins and two losses.

Supporting Adrian Nosa Castillo was Alex Drincic who came off the bench and had 18 points and 15 year old Matthew Marsh also had 18 points, his highest tally so far in the EABL.

For Itchen, Matt Hughes top scored for his team with 15 points with Aaron Berida adding 13 and Rhys Bain 9.

JMA are next in action in two weeks time when they entertain the City of London Academy whilst Itchen College are also back in action on Wednesday 29th November when they host league leaders Barking Abbey.
