John Madejski Academy vs Oaklands College

John Madejski Academy earned a comfortable victory in the EABL on Wednesday afternoon when they defeated Oaklands College by 103 points to 52 behind Sam Grant’s 25 points.

JMA Head Coach Alan Keane praised his team for a professional performance saying, “Having played Oaklands already this year we know they can be a difficult challenge. Credit to our players who asserted themselves well having lost the opening five minutes. Players committed to the game plan which had a heavy defensive focus and our offence triggered from there.”

It was in fact the visiting team that started on the front foot as Oaklands led after the first five minutes 11-8. With the game tied at 16 with two minutes remaining in the first period, JMA ended the quarter with an 8-0 run to lead 24-16 after ten. The home team then really stamped their authority on the encounter as 17-0 to start the second quarter gave JMA a 41-16 lead. The hosts then poured in a further 16 points to lead 56-26 at the half time interval after a 32-10 second stanza. JMA opened the second half in similar fashion as they extended their advantage to 40 midway through the third quarter, leading 71-41. Oaklands did then have a small flurry of points to end the third period, pouring in 13 to JMA’s 10 as the score stood at 81-44 with 10 minutes to play.

The final quarter saw JMA stamp their defensive presence on the game, holding their opponents to just eight points whilst scoring 22 of their own as they rounded off a convincing victory 103-52.

Supporting Grant’s 26 was Asher Ndah with 20 and David Obediah with 11. For Oaklands, Ola Olanrele had 13 points, Rich Ashu had 11 and Darren Ainembabazi had 10.

JMA host the powerhouse of Barking Abbey next Wednesday 30th January whilst Oaklands College host BHASVIC on the same day.
