Loreto College vs BMET James Watt College

Loreto College defeat BMET James Watt College 73-59 on Wendesday afternoon in Manchester.

Loreto were led by 20 from Michael Anumba, and 15 from Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo 15, as they used a 10-2 run to open the final period to provide enough of a cushion to get the win, overcoming a game-high 27 points from James Watt’s Daniel Penkov.

The game started a scrappy affair with both teams failing to convert around the rim. It was James Watt who settled first behind an impressive first quarter display from Daniel Penkov.

Penkov was causing the home side a lot of trouble off the bounce and ended the period with 8 points. The second quarter saw Loreto start to hit their stride with some big shots from the outside and some early scores in transition. The home side took a 10 point lead into the break, 35-25.

After the half, the 10-point lead quickly dissipated behind more strong play from Penkov. Penkov would finish the game leading all scorers with 27.

Although the lead was only 6 points to Loreto going into the final period, the home side opened the period with a 10-2 run taking the lead to 15. This proved too much for the visitors to overcome and Loreto took the win with a scoreline of 73-59.

Loreto coach Peter Paraskeva commented after the game: “We played well at times but we need to understand that a 10 point lead is nothing in this league. There are far too many good players and coaches out there to let your concentration slip but for a minute.”

Connor Lynch added 10 and David Stevic 9 for James Watt.

Loreto travel to Myerscough next week where as James Watt get their home floor back against SGS.
