Loreto College vs Myerscough College

Wednesday afternoon saw Myerscough start their EABL campaign with a win on the road to Loreto College, 71-55.

Myerscough’s Edoardo Del Cadia led the scoring with 23 points scoring from inside and outside the arc. New recruit Mate Okros got off to a good start with an 11-point outing.

Michael Anumba was the star performer for the home side netting 19 points, while Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo continued his good start to the season with 13 points.

The first quarter started strong for Loreto with Michael Anumba getting into the paint and causing the Myerscough guards to pick up early fouls. Myerscough regrouped behind the strong inside out play from Edoardo Del Cadia and finished the quarter only 1-point down.

Myerscough then upped the defensive intensity and took back the initiative. The tempo increased dramatically due to an aggressive zone press from the visitors causing Loreto to take rushed shots that weren’t falling. Although in the last 2 minutes of the half the home side had now settled they still went into the break 5 points down, 40-35.

The second half was a more balanced affair but Myerscough increased their lead to 10 points behind a couple of big 3 point shots from Martell Elly and Mate Okros. The damage was done and Loreto could not eat into the deficit during the last quarter due to their struggles from the freethrow line. Myerscough took the contest 71-55.

Loreto Coach Peter Paraskeva commented after the game:

“We played good basketball for three quarters today and that’s not enough in this league. If you lose focus for even a minute the game can already be out of reach. Credit to Myerscough who are well drilled and have multiple scoring threats.”
