Manchester Magic Academy 54 v 66 Charnwood College

Blaize Sagna led Charnwood with a game high 18 points as the defending champions opened up their EABL campaign with a 66-54 win in Manchester.

The game started with both sides trading baskets but it was Manchester that exploded into the lead in the second quarter. Magic’s Jason Ani put in a solid shift to propel his team into a 34-23 lead at the half time break.

Charnwood upped their defensive intensity to start the half and behind a 14-2 run late in the third, found themselves taking a slender 45-43 lead into the final period. The game remained close until the final few minutes when Manchester failed to convert at crucial moments down the stretch and Charnwood capitalised in transition. Charnwood took home the victory 66-54.

Manchester coach Peter Paraskeva commented after the game ‘I am pleased with the basketball we played for the majority of today. A bit more composure late on and some poor shot selection¬†hurt us but still a lot of good to take away’.

Next week sees Manchester take on James Watt at home where as Charnwood host Myerscough.
