Manchester Magic Academy 85 – 92 Derby Trailblazers Academy

The Derby Trailblazers travelled to Manchester on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Magic Academy, coming away with an important 92-85 win.

It would be the home side that settled into the game first, taking a slender 3 point lead into the second quarter.

From here Derby increased their defensive intensity and ran out in transition for multiple easy layups. Manchester now trailed the game by 12 points going into the break. Derby’s Blake Bowman had a blistering half with 21 points and would eventually finish with an impressive game high 41 points.

The home team started to claw their way back into the contest at the start of the third and even took a slender 2 point lead into the final minute of the game.

Despite the advantage, it was the Trailblazers who closed out the game behind consistent free throw shooting from Charlie Brown who finished with 17.

Manchester coach Peter Paraskeva commented after the game: “We let ourselves down today. In this league consistency is key and to play as poorly as we did in the second quarter ultimately cost us the game.”

Next week sees the Magic on the road to Sheffield College whilst the Trailblazers host Newcastle in 2 weeks time.
