Manchester Magic Academy vs Charnwood College

Wednesday afternoon saw the Northern Conference leaders Charnwood College make the trip to Manchester to face the Magic Academy.

The visitors raced off to a 9-0 run to start the game, which forced the Magic into an early timeout. The home side struggled to find the net but were kept in the game through some good offensive rebounding. The fight back was short lived however, as Charnwood finished the quarter with multiple run outs in transition due to a handful of careless turnovers. They continued to extend the lead in the second period behind the dominant inside scoring from Hosana Kitenge, who finished the game with a team high 19 points.

Moving into the second half, the Magic found themselves down 42-27 and it was looking to get worse as the points difference increased to 20. However, Manchester’s Josh Grant sparked into life and scored an impressive 10 points in the third on his way to a game high 23 points personal. The game would eventually finish 85-67 to Charnwood College who remain undefeated in conference play.

Magic coach Peter Paraskeva commented after the game saying, ‘We are getting better all the time, asking a predominantly U17 group to compete at U19 level in their first year is always a difficult ask but they are starting to adjust to the physicality and are now producing more consistent performances.’

The Magic were led by Josh Grant with 23 points, Luke Gordos with 18 and Noah Tchifounga who chipped in with 7. Charnwood were led by Hosana Kitenge with 19 points, Moyo Adekeye with 16 and Niall Harris with 11.
