Manchester Magic Academy vs SGS College

SGS College made the trip up North to take on the Manchester Magic Academy on Wednesday.

The Magic that got off to a blistering start behind an 11-0 run and took the first quarter 26-10. The second period was much of the same despite SGS’s Marvin Dinnall (finished with 12 points personal) with strong drives into the lane and knocking down a handful of contested pull ups. Magic took a 47-21 lead into the halftime break.

The second half was a much closer affair with SGS opening the half with a 7-2 run.  The away side were now having more success putting the ball down low where they forced themselves to the free throw line on multiple occasions. Manchester stepped up their defensive intensity towards the end of the game, which led to numerous transition points and a final score line of 77-46 for the home side.

Coach Peter Paraskeva commented after the game, ‘We know SGS like to get the ball inside and we did a pretty good job of preventing easy catches. We are definitely improving, our defensive positioning off the ball and improved defensive transition are helping us to produce more consistent performances.’

Magic were led by Ty Jordan and Dan Gargan with 14 points and Saul May chipped in with 10. SGS were led by Marvin Dinnall with 12 points and Loius Weaver how had 11.

Next week sees Magic on the road to Derby and SGS are heading back to theie home floor to take on Myerscough College.
