Manchester Magic Academy vs The Sheffield College

On Wednesday afternoon, The Sheffield College travelled to Manchester to face Manchester Magic Academy, as the home side took the victory 88-42.

The first quarter started as a closely contested and scrappy affair with both teams turning the ball over and unable to convert around the basket. The youth on both sides definitely showed throughout the half, but it was Manchester going on a 20-6 run that had the home team going into the half-time break up 48-22.

Sheffield’s JJ Wright joint top scored in the contest with 14 points, getting to the rim on multiple occasions and finishing strong, allowing the third quarter to stay relatively even. However, the home side took it up a gear in the final period behind some hot shooting, running away with a 88-42 victory to open the new EABL campaign.

Magic Coach Peter Paraskeva commented after the game, “We have the largest cohort of first year students graduating up from our Under 16 programme than ever before and I’m relishing the opportunity to work with such dedicated individuals over the coming years.”

Magic’s were led in scoring by Malachi Boakye-Yiadom (14), Dan Gargan (13) and Jason Ani (11), while the leaders for Sheffield were JJ Wright (14), Reyad West (9) and Sam Taylor (7).

Next week sees Sheffield on the road again visiting Charnwood College, while Manchester have a week off before travelling to SGS on 10 October.
