Myerscough took down Charnwood’s eleven game winning streak in a 79-62 victory on Wednesday afternoon in a battle between the top two ranked teams in the West.
It was Charnwood who started brightly, led by the current player of the week Johde Campbell, who grabbed 4 of his team high 21 points early on.
Myerscough responded in the second but it was Charnwood who were to take a 34 – 32 lead into the break.
Myerscough who had trailed by as many as 13 points in a slow scoring first half, used a 30 – 4 third quarter run, swinging the game by 33 to take a commanding 20 point lead into the fourth. England international Zion Tordoff had 11 of his 20 points in the third including back to back triples which blew the tie wide open.
Myerscough maintained a 20 point fourth quarter lead to run out with a hard fought 79-62 win.
“The guys were outstanding today, the defensive contributions of Landry Mayinga and Edo Del Cadia were the foundation of our performance,” said Myerscough Head Coach Neal Hopkins.
“I also thought Konrad Kantorski did a great job leading the team.
“The win secures our playoff position and will give us an opportunity to rest some players tomorrow. Charnwood are a well coached side who will bounce back.”
Konrad Kantorski led Myerscough with 24 points, whilst Zion Tordoff and Spas Nikolov had 20 and 18 respectively. Johde Campbell led the way for the visitors with 21 whilst Romario Spence had 11 and Sesan Russell 10.
Myerscough complete their regular season as they host Bournville tomorrow, as Charnwood have the number 1 spot locked up in the West, and with today’s victory, Myerscough lock up the second seed.
