Myerscough College vs Newcastle Eagles Academy

Lewis McGlasson hit five three-pointers and led six players in double-figure scoring with 17 points as Myerscough College beat Newcastle Eagles Academy 106-48 to remain unbeaten in the EABL Northern Conference. Daniel Chima added 13 points and Corey Samuels had 12 whilst Bradley Kaboza, Callan Low and Demi Adenuga all chipped in 10 each for Myerscough (3-0), which led from start to finish and connected on 15 three-pointers.

“The bench has been great for us this season,” said Myerscough guard McGlasson, who was one of four off the bench to reach double figures. “It’s given us energy when we need it and that’s really helped us get wins.”

Myerscough scored the first six points of the game and held a 13-5 advantage with 3:05 to go in the opening quarter. Newcastle closed within seven before Myerscough, who shook off a uncharacteristically sluggish start, used 14-3 run extended the lead to 32-14.

“We had a bit of a slow start which we had to overcome,” said Myerscough coach Neal Hopkins. “The big thing for us is we sometimes need to remember to have fun – the guys enjoyed that second half, but through the first half we were probably too focused on getting things right as opposed to just playing.”

Newcastle were limited to just five points in the third quarter and trailed 42-16 at halftime, before an onslaught of eight Myerscough three-pointers in the fourth, including five-straight, pushed the contest to a 60-point gap. Theo Riley and Tosan Evbuomwan scored 15 points apiece in the loss for the Eagles (1-4).

Myerscough faces a trip to Charnwood College next Wednesday, while Newcastle hosts Manchester Magic Academy.
