Oaklands College 76 – 85 Canterbury Academy

Canterbury win 85- 76 vs Oaklands College on a rearranged Thursday game.

Oaklands knew they were in for a tough afternoon, last time these two teams met, Canterbury were clinical and beat Oaklands by 46 points.

The first quarter saw both teams exchange baskets as they tried to gain control of the game and it was Canterbury who would close the first quarter with a narrow 24-21 lead.

Oaklands stepped up their defensive efforts and attempted to slow down Canterbury but the visitors showed their quality and went into half time up by ten, 47-37.

A tight third period that mirrored the first saw the visitors extend their lead by 3 more points – the game was in the balance going into the fourth in which Oaklands would see their defensive efforts rewarded as they won the period but unfortunately could only do sobs 2 points. Meaning it was Canterbury who held on to take the road win, but with the difference in the games this season Oaklands will have a lot to take from the game as well. .

Toby Gastaldi-Davies led all scorers by pouring in 22 personal, including 5 from behind the arc. He was supported by Nick Powdrell’s 13 and Simeon Douglas 11

Canterbury were led by a dominant 20 points from Will Raife, with great support fom Chester Morrell and Robbie Graham who bagged 14 and 12 points respectively.

After the game Gastaldi-Davies said “Today was about us playing our style of basketball and committing to it. The guys showed that and as a result we found ourselves in the game and competing on the score board too. It was a great team effort by everyone”
