Oaklands College 58 – 72 Copleston High School

Copleston left Hertfordshire with a 72- 58 win over Oaklands College on Wednesday afternoon.

Oaklands College knew they had to be at their best against a competitive and well coached team but it was the away side that settled quickly and, led by Ethan Price’s hot hand and activity around the rim, raced out to an early lead. Simeon Douglas showed his development as the forward opened Oaklands scoring with a triple, quickly followed by Jeremy Lievin contributing on the interior. However a 10-0 run to end the quarter put Copleston in control with a 7-20 period lead, with Price contributing 13 points alone.

Oliver Wright has been Oaklands best player of late, and he sparked the come back in the second period. Wright fired a quick 6 points on a 9-0 run to start the quarter. Copleston responded but Oaklands hit two 3s to finish the half and leave it poised at 33-32 to Oaklands at the break.

The third quarter saw both teams stepped up their defensive effort in a close period which left the team separated by a single basket going into the final quarter. Just as it looked the home side had the answer to push Copleston to the close, Jacob Morgan stepped up for the visitors by hitting 3 three’s in a row and sparked a demoralising 10-21 quarter to secure the win.

“Best game we have played this season” said Oaklands player Simeon Douglas after the game. “The guys continued to work hard for one another. As expected, we had some high moments and some low but the guys were determined to play our style of basketball and compete until the end, we just fell short.”

The home team leading scorers were Jeremy Lievin 12, Simeon Douglas 11 and Oliver Wright who finished with 10.

For Copleston the impressive shooting of Jacob Morgan lead all scorers with a huge 27 including 6 triples. Morgan was supported by a dominant Ethan Price with 20 personal, and Ben Winter had 13 points.

Oaklands are away to Itchen next week, Whilst Copleston host Canterbury on the same day.
