Oaklands College 62 – 80 Itchen College

Oaklands College welcomed Itchen College to the Oaklands College Sports Zone, with the visitors leaving with all three points following an 80-62 victory.

Itchen started the game strongly by aggressively forcing their way to the foul line as they jumped to a 16-4 lead over the first five minutes of the contest.

Oaklands came into the game and improved through the second quarter, however a poor 3 point shooting performance, which saw them go 6/39 for the game, meant they went into the break down 11.

The second half mirrored the first, another poor showing in the opening five minutes of the third by the home side allowed Itchen’s Tyreese Hudson the opportunity to profit by scoring 6 of his game high 17 in this spell.

Mid-way through the period the Itchen advantage touched the 20 point mark and although the remainder of the game was competitive and well contested, the final score left the home team wondering what could have been.

Oaklands captain Toby Gastaldi-Davies said: “We need to start better in each half, we cause our own problems and it gives us an uphill battle. Itchen were more assertive than us today and deserved the result. We couldn’t buy a bucket from the outside today which didn’t help our come back. We are moving in the right direction but have a lot more work to do.”

Oaklands were led by 16 points from Gastaldi-Davies whilst Jeremy Lievin and Finley D’Avilar added 10 and 9 respectively.

Itchen were lead by the game’s leading scorer Tyreese Hudson with 17 points, closely followed by Josh Sissons on 15 and Taiga Forster with 14.

Next Wednesday Oaklands travel to USP College looking for their first win in the season whilst Itchen are on the road again to the resurgent Copleston High School.
