Oaklands College 61 v 87 John Madejski Academy

Oaklands College welcomed John Madejski Academy for the first EABL league home game of the season at Oaklands following the renovation of the sports facilities. The Wolves couldn’t mark the occasion with a win though as JMA secured an 87 – 61 win.

In a tight opening first quarter the lead changed 5 times with both sides looking to establish themselves early on. David Chive score 9 in the quarter on his way to a game high 25. Multiple trips to the foul line for both sides was the early story and it was JMA that converted more from the stripe as they edged it 19-16 after the first.

The visitors opened the 2nd quarter with back to back scores by Victor Gadea, then firmly established Sam Grant in the game, and the inside presence of the forward was too much for Oaklands to handle as his 7 points in the period separated the sides at the break.

The second half followed suit despite some competitive play from Oaklands pair Jeremy Lievin and Toby Gastaldi-Davies, who tried to pull their team back in the contes, but ultimately they never managed to get the difference back to single digits.

Four triples by Chive in the fourth sealed the contest and kept JMA’s record perfect for 19/20.

Lead Coach Albert Ziwa commented “The guys played to more of their potential today, which shows growth after the Barking result. We really competed in the first half but we have a lot of work to do if we are going to take down a well coached and talented group like JMA. We didn’t have the solution for Chive and Grant today, they will be a handful all season long.”

Oaklands were led by Toby Gastaldi-Davies 16 points whilst Nick Powdrell stepped up to add 14 for the home side. JMA were lead by the game’s leading scorer David Chive with an impressive 25 point haul. He was back up by 20 points from Sam Grant and 14 points from Victor Gadea.

Next Wednesday Oaklands travel to London to take on CoLA whilst JMA will look to continue their unbeaten start as they host Itchen College.
