Oaklands College vs BHASVIC

Oaklands College finished their season with a home win against BHASVIC 100-87 in the EABL on Wednesday at Oaklands College St Albans Campus.

The home side had Wesley Moore with 21 points, Jordan George with 20 and Ope Afolabi rounded out the top three scorers for Oaklands with 17.

A frantic start favoured BHASVIC as they took an early lead thanks. A putback from Abdul Wurie was the start of a 7-0 run that put Oaklands in the lead before both teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter as it ended 24-24.

Oaklands started the better in the second quarter, Ola Olanrele scored five points and Wesley Moore scored his second 3-pointer of the game as part of a 8-0 run which put Oaklands in control.

Another 7-0 run saw the lead stretched to 15 points and Oaklands would go into the half up 57-43.

The hosts went on a 11-0 run to start the third and Oaklands led by 28 midway through the quarter. Complacency started to creep in for the home team and BHASVIC capitalised by scoring 11 unanswered points as they closed the gap to 17.

Oaklands’ George would arguably have the highlight of the game at the end of the third quarter; a block down one end which then led to a putback dunk at the other with the hosts leading 80-61.

Both teams would trade baskets for most of the fourth until BHASVIC went on a 10-0 run to make it a single-digit deficit for the first time in the second half which set up a tense finish for the home team.

Some crucial free throws helped secure the win as despite losing the final quarter 18-26, Oaklands completed a 13-point victory.

Coach Baker had this to say on his teams performance: “Today we had some really good moments, we played with confidence and that showed on the offensive end. Some guys really stepped up to show how bright the future could be for the academy.

“It was great for the guys to end the season with a win, it has been a pleasure to coach the team this year, look forward to the future of this academy.”

Moore added: “This team has come a long way from the start of the season, we showed today how together we can be. I have enjoyed every moment being part of this team this year and personally I am glad I helped my team win today.”

Oaklands end the season with a record of 6-8, BHASVIC end the year 0-14.
