Oaklands College vs City of London Academy

Oaklands College hosted City of London Academy in a close physical battle on Wednesday afternoon, as the home side came up just short in a 55-61 loss.

The game was tight throughout, with the biggest lead of the contest held by Oaklands College in the second quarter when they pulled away to lead 31-21. However, CoLA came back with a run of their own to reduce the deficit to just two points heading into half-time.

The third and fourth quarters remained tight, but Oaklands College will be kicking themselves after their inability to punish CoLA when at the free throw line – converting only 7/20 at the line was ultimately a big reason in the tight loss.

Oaklands’ Coach Michael Ball commented, “Overall we should take some comfort from the improved defensive effort and the overall approach of the team to the game. If the players keep applying themselves in practice then they will continue to improve as a group. They know they should have won today and were disappointed with the result but CoLA came up with some important plays at the end.”

Oaklands’ guard Shaheem Tuvera added, “We did a good job of applying consistent pressure, and every time CoLA came at us we continued to find different ways to compete.”

Oaklands will look to continue their improvement with a road trip to Itchen College next week, whilst CoLA travel to John Madejski Academy.
