Oaklands College vs John Madejski Academy

Oaklands College hosted John Madejski Academy on Wednesday in the EABL Southern Conference and fell to a 62-86 defeat.

JMA came out with real intensity and jumped out to an early lead. Despite two comebacks from Oaklands College they remained in control, before the lead grew in the final quarter. David Chive and Sam Grant lead JMA in scoring with 17 and 15, respectively, as Coach Alan Keane’s side used a balanced scoring attack to grab the win, with 10 players getting on the score sheet.

A high scoring first quarter saw JMA leading 27-19, as both teams were creating opportunities to score in transition while moving the ball well. JMA went on a run in the second quarter that stretched their lead to 49-31 by half time. An improvement by Oaklands led to a 13-7 run after the half, but again JMA stretched their lead out to remain in control in the fourth.

Oaklands Coach Michael Ball said, “The message is the same after last weeks game. We are not going to take any short cuts defensively and the guys are working hard in practice to compete, to improve the details, but it is not yet showing on game-day. Congratulations to JMA, they moved the ball far better than us and also defended the drive and ball screen really effectively.”

Asher Ndah chipped in 12 points in his side’s victory, while Oaklands were led by Toby Gastaldi-Davies’ 19 points, as Abdul Wurie added 10 and Ola Olanrele had 9.

JMA continue their campaign away to Barking Abbey on 31 October, whilst Oaklands College have a few weeks off before a return to action on 7 November when they will host SEEVIC College.
