Oaklands College vs John Madejski Academy

Oaklands College lost to John Madejski Academy on Wednesday afternoon 47-62 in another thrilling EABL encounter

The home side has not enjoyed the kind of season they hoped for and with 10 players out and JMA playing really strong basketball of late this could have been a walk over or the traveling side; as it turned out both teams battled for 40 minutes and had to earn every point in this one.

The first half way a real back and forth contest, it was obvious how much both teams have improved defensively as they forced their counter parts into tough shot after tough shot with the lead changing 12 times in the first half. There was nothing between the teams as they went into the locker room at 25-25.

The third period opened in the same way until JMA went on a 10-0 scoring run mid way thought the period to establish the first meaningful lead in the game. The excellent off ball action and aggressive cutting got the visitors in the lane where Oaklands struggled to contain JMAs length.

Credit the home side they didn’t lie down, they continued to battle and put themselves back in a 10 point game multiple times and on a better shooting day they could have taken the game. As it was, JMA continue their playoff push and leave Oaklands wondering what could have been for the season.

Oaklands captain Mark James said:

“The guys worked really hard today and we stayed together and gave all we had to get the win. If our shots would of dropped that game could have gone either way.

“The stats will tell us everything, we had great looks from three but just couldn’t convert on them, I think Leon hit are only three of the game which is not like us. No matter what we will finish this season like this and we will take a win off someone!”

JMA had Ibu Jassey Demba with 11 points and teammates Fidel Lopez & Ganesh Bikram Rana with 10 each.

Oaklands were led by Kyle Dennis with 11 points and guard Leon Page with 9.

Oaklands travel to Copleston next Wednesday with a EABL and WEABL double header, where as JMA are away to Itchen College in a playoff battle.
