Oaklands College vs The Canterbury Academy

Canterbury triumph 79- 60 over Oaklands College.

Oaklands College hosted Canterbury knowing they had to be at their best against a competitive and well coached Canterbury team. The away team started as expected with a quick 4-0 lead from E. Sesay and S. Alajiki contributing 2 points each. Simeon Douglas continued to show the improvements he has made this season for the home team by disrupting Canterbury’s scoring and adding 2 points of his own.

Both teams battled hard and Oaklands were determined to match Canterbury’s intensity as the first quarter finished 22-22. Canterbury started to show their strengths and abilities as they stretched the lead to finish the first half up 10 with the scores at 33- 43. Oaklands continued to battle defensively but struggled to find away to execute offensively, as Canterbury stretched the lead going into the fourth. Oaklands attempts of responding came too late as Canterbury pushed ahead to secure the victory 79- 60.

After the game, coach Albert Ziwa stated: “I am proud of how the team performed today, they are recognising and understanding what it takes to compete at this level and in the first half they showed this against a relentless Canterbury. The guys will learn from this game and no doubt we will keep getting better.”

For the home team, Ola Olanrele and Toby Gastaldi- Davies finished with 11 points, and Simeon Douglas added 10 points. Canterbury were led by the impressive shooting of Morrell who lead all scorers with 24 points. Raife also contributed 13 with Moore and Gordon both pouring in 10 points each.

Oaklands are away to CoLA next , whilst Canterbury host JMA.
