SEEVIC College vs Barking Abbey School

Barking Abbey School remained unbeaten, while SEEVIC showed improvement, in a Southern Conference match-up that ended 49-97 in favour of the East London side.

The home side started well, matching Barking’s offensive efforts, an effort that continued until the last two minutes of the second period. A crazy final two minutes heading into the half allowed the visitors to extend their lead by 13 points. Heading into the locker rooms, Zayaam Ali had 14 points to pace the hosts, whilst Chris Feeney led Barking with 11.

The second half came around as the contest become a game of two halves. Barking ramped up their defensive intensity; SEEVIC couldn’t break the pressure, committing silly turnovers. This helped Barking spark a 12-0 run, forcing an early timeout from SEEVIC. Coming out of the timeout, the hosts continued to struggle to find an answer as they lost their offensive rhythm.

Coming away with a 49-97 loss, SEEVIC Coach Ross Norfolk said, “We showed an improved performance this week. We played with confidence in the first half, but now we need to do this for a full 40 mins.”

Zayaam Ali finished with a game-high 19 points to lead SEEVIC, while Chris Feeney had 15 points to pace the visitors.

Next week SEEVIC host Oaklands College, while Barking pay Copleston a visit to close out the first half of the season on Wednesday 19 December.
