SEEVIC College vs Oaklands College

Oaklands College picked up their first victory of the 2018/19 campaign, grabbing a 58-84 road win over SEEVIC College. A rearranged Monday night game went the visitors’ way after they stretched ahead in the second half, after a competitive first half of play.

The hosts started out the aggressors, applying full-court pressure and forcing Oaklands into an early time as SEEVIC led 21-7. The visiting side regrouped and while SEEVIC lost some offensive rhythm, first quarter still finished with a 21-16 advantage in favour of the hosts.

The first half was a real game of two quarters, as the visitors forced SEEVIC into silly turnovers to diminish the hosts’ threat on the offensive end. A good quarter for Oaklands saw them lead 30-40 as the teams headed for the locker rooms.

After the break, the two teams were battling it out with full-court pressure as they traded baskets. Chris Janes lead the way for the hosts with eight points personal in the period.

The final stanza saw Oaklands ramp up the pressure even more, as they continued to score freely, pulling away to build a decisive lead. The contest finished 58-84 to the visitors, who chalked up their first win of the campaign.

Janes led the hosts with 17 points and 13 rebounds, whilst Rich Ashu finished with 19 points to pace Oaklands.

“I was pleased with the way we started the game; we came out confident,” said SEEVIC Coach Ross Norfolk.

“We now need to strive for consistency. We have shown we can compete but now need to fulfil this for the whole game.”

SEEVIC now visit Canterbury on Wednesday 19 December to close out their 2018 schedule before they break up for Christmas. In the new year, SEEVIC will resume their EABL action when they play host to City of London Academy, whilst Oaklands will welcome Copleston High School.
