SGS College vs Allerton City of Leeds Academy

SGS College getting off to a winning start in 2018 with a 79-62 win versus a spirited Allerton side.

The first quarter was tight throughout with both teams battling hard on both ends of the floor. The individual battle was between AJ Edu for SGS and Jake Aldridge for Allerton. By the end of the first half Edu had finished with 21 of the home team’s 36 and Aldridge had netted 18 for the visitors also scoring 36.

In the second half, SGS came out with more purpose on the defensive end, holding the visitors to 12 in the third period. This was coupled with some balanced scoring from both the starting five and bench of the Bristol side.

The fourth quarter was a more even affair and Allerton fought throughout, especially impressive considering they came with a depleted side for such a long trip.

The final score was 79-62 to SGS with the main scorers being Edu for SGS with 31 and Aldridge with 24. Oli Carey added 12 for SGS and Jamal Parsons Powell 8, whilst for Allerton, Harry Resendez finished with 13 and Will Gilroy 12.

“It was good to get off to a winning start for the second half of the season, against a short handed but tough Allerton side,” SGS Head Coach Guy Coles said.

“The most positive aspect was the players response in the second half, especially on the defensive end, which was the impetus for the win. ”

SGS will now face BMET James Watt on Wednesday, whilst Allerton take on Charnwood in a double-header week for both teams.
